This functionally identical to the conventional 350ml Stein of Science, however the protective full aluminum jacket is missing to expose the beautiful silvered glass beneath. I built it with brass mirror finish handle and aluminum spacers to use *MAXIMUM METAL* in it's construction. However, without the protective metal jacket you will need to treat your stein kindly; it is made of glass under vacuum after all. Those warning labels aren't just for show, kids.

The interior volume is something close to traditional coffee mug or 12oz soda can. When not drinking beer or coffee, this is my preferred size for chilled cocktail administration. Also, it lets you look a bit less like a lush at Belgian ale houses as they're prone to serving in smaller sized vessels.

Would you like to turn your stein into a travel mug? Steinwielder Brad sent me this link for the DCI I Am Not A Plastic Lid which fits the shiny brass style stein quite well. You might still have leakage from the sipping hole, but no worse than a normal travel cup from your local coffee shop. I heartily endorse them for soda, coffee, or tea use.

I've made this stein using a bench top dewar flask because the former croygenics technician in me won't let me use an inferior quality dewar. I've found dewars still holding good vacuum after 30 years. This is, for all intents and purposes, the very best thermos you're ever going to find. It is quite common to fill these with liquid nitrogen, let it sit on the lab bench, and when you come back three days later there will still be liquid nitrogen in it.

Now imagine what it can do for beer.

Your last sip of beer will be as cold as your first. If you can survive a martini of this size, it will be frosty all the way down. It will, of course, also keep hot things hot just as well as it keeps cold things cold.
